When the Columbia space shuttle disintegrated upon re-entry, the American people experienced a great tragedy led to a complete investigation of the space program. 英语写作评分标准高档要求：应用了较多的语法结构或词汇;语法结构或词汇方面有少许错误，但为尽力使用较复杂结构或较高级词汇所致;有效地使用了语句间的连接成分，使全文结构紧凑。从历年写作高分文章来看，每篇文章都有 亮 点，即在用词、造句或段落安排上都有独到之处。
一、词汇选择 标新立异
在写作中 较高级词汇 的使用主要是指使用《大纲》上没有的词语、使用通过构词法变化来的新词、使用同义词或反义词等来代替常见词语。
1)这栋房子在芳草街的一栋楼上。
A: The flat is in a building on Fangcao Street.
B: The flat situates in a building on Fangcao Street.
分析:is in是常见词语，而situates in则是《大纲》上没有的，属于高级词汇。
2)在周末大家做很多作业。
A: At weekends, we have a lot of homework to do.
B: At weekends, we have endless homework to do.
分析:B句在表达时没有使用过于直接的a lot of，而是使用了endless。endless就是由《大纲》词汇end加后缀-less变化来的。
3)洗澡间和厨房都很好。
A: The bathroom and the kitchen are good.
B. The bathroom and the kitchen are well-furnished.
在表达要点时，B句使用了well furnished,这比good语气强，也显得生动。

就主语提问时，将疑问代词或带有疑问限定词的名词词组置于be动词过去式was/were之前(was/were的第一个字母无需大写)，和一般疑问句差不多，在句尾加问号;这种语序是陈述句语序。就表语提问时，则以一个疑问代词或疑问副词开头，之后是“be动词过去式was/were + 主语”，在句尾加问号;这种语序是主语和谓语倒装语序：

这样作的好处:
1. 自己就可以练习口语,想练多久,就练多久.
2. 始终有一位高级教师指出您的不足和错误---英文原文.
3. 题材范围极广,可以突破大家自己的思维禁锢,比如大家总是喜欢谈论大家自己熟悉的话题,所以大家总是在练习相同的语言,进步当然就缓慢了.
4. 选择小说,幽默故事或好的短文,使大家有足够的兴趣坚持下去.
5. 有一些大家在直接课文时被大家熟视无睹的地道的英语用法会被此法发掘出来.
6. 对所学常识和所犯错误印象深刻.这等于大家一直在作汉译英练习,很多英文译文是大家费尽心思憋出来的,所以印象相当深刻.比直接学习英文课文印象要深的多.
E. Interpreting what you hear---Changing Roles: Three people make a group: one speaks Chinese, one speaks English acting as the foreigner, one acts as interpreter. Then change roles. 8．third degree 逼供；拷问
在美国，警察过去常常对无权无势的普通人使用刑讯逼供。人们遂借（the）third degree喻指（警察的）疲劳询问（或逼供），同时还把“逮捕”和“入狱”分别婉称为the first degree（第一级）和the second degree（第二级）。third degree常和动词get/give连用,作get the third degree和give someone a/the degree。
