开展课外阅读活动，强化阅读理解能力
在课外阅读中，学生是主体，教师应把学习的主动权交还给学生。同时，教师还应在教学中引导学生掌握正确的阅读方法和技巧，并督促、检查学生的课外阅读情况，及时作出反馈和评价。教师还应督促学生反省自己的不足，并及时调整阅读学习策略，不断提高阅读的能力。我国是汉语言国家，在缺乏英语语言环境的情况下，加大学生的课外英语阅读量，也是提高高中英语能力的一种方法。要提高学生的阅读能力和自学能力只进行快速阅读训练是不够的。如果以每周1000个词来计算， 学生一个学期只能完成1－1.5 万个词的阅读量，不足以使学生从中获取到独立阅读英语文章的基本技巧。所以，除快速阅读外，我还开展了课外阅读活动，目的在于增加阅读量。向学生提供较多而且题材较广的短小精悍的阅读材料，并要求学生相互交换各自的不同阅读材料，要求每人每天课外阅读600个词的短文，这样，既增加了阅读量，又扩大了学生的常识面，更提高了学生的阅读兴趣。学生可以根据自己的实际情况阅读难易适当且感兴趣的文章、作品。因此，课外阅读可以满足不同层次的学生对英语阅读的需求。通过一个多学期课内与课外相结合的课外阅读训练，学生的阅读速度明显加快了，由开始时的30-40词/分钟到现在普遍50-60词/分钟，有些甚至更快；阅读能力也明显提高了，体现在做阅读理解题时，学生们的正答率比以前有了提高。
